Tatsumi wasn't sure why he agreed to Watari's suggestion of strip chess. Perhaps he was just tired of doing paperwork.
Watari chattered gaily as he set up the board, explaining the rules. "And of course," he finished, "whoever is checkmated gets naked." His eyes laughed. "If you lose your king, you lose everything."
Tatsumi tilted his head to one side. "All right," he said evenly, and sat down. He looked up in time to see Watari swallow hard as though he had been bluffing and hadn't expected Tatsumi to call. Tatsumi smiled and pushed up his glasses. "I'll be black."
Tatsumi wasn't sure why he agreed to Watari's suggestion of strip chess. Perhaps it was the challenging look in Watari's eyes when he inquired as to whether Tatsumi was afraid he might lose.
One article of clothing for every captured piece. Tatsumi calculated he wore enough to be decent if he lost everything but his king.
It wasn't until Watari was sitting across from him with his labcoat and sweater tossed to one side and stripping one fingerless glove from his hand with his teeth that it occured to Tatsumi that he might be in more trouble if he won.
Tatsumi wasn't sure why he agreed to Watari's suggestion of strip chess. Perhaps it was the way the scientist's hair gleamed when he tossed it over his shoulder with a careless flick of a hand.
Tatsumi always played efficient games of chess with as few pieces lost as possible. "Check."
"I should have wagered one piece of clothing per time in check," Watari grumbled cheerfully as he captured a knight.
Tatsumi ran a hand up his arm and slid his fingertips under his armband and inched it down slowly.
"Tease," Watari complained.
Tatsumi just smiled and moved his queen. "Check."
Tatsumi wasn't sure why he agreed to Watari's suggestion of strip chess. Perhaps he was distracted by slim talented fingers toying with the rounded tip of the bishop.
He made a capture and watched as Watari stood. Tatsumi watched the play of muscles in his chest as Watari's hand went to his belt and unbuckled it.
Watari winked at him and Tatsumi's breath caught. Watari pulled his belt free and dropped it on the floor as Tatsumi sighed. "You almost sound disappointed, Tatsumi," he teased.
Tatsumi pushed up his glasses and ignored the flush on his cheeks. "Don't be ridiculous."
Tatsumi wasn't sure why he agreed to Watari's suggestion of strip chess. Perhaps it was an excuse to give in to desires long denied.
As the game drew to its conclusion, they both stared intently at the board, caught more by the challenge of their opponent than their respective states of near undress. Although Tatsumi was very aware of Watari's discarded hair ribbon touching his bare foot.
Watari grinned triumphantly, "Checkmate!"
As Tatsumi stood, Watari watched him warily. "You don't have to, you know."
Tatsumi smiled and began to remove the rest of his clothing. "I always pay my debts."
