So very not betaed, and possibly contradictory to canon.

Proof Of
by Rana Eros

Shinigami don't show up in photographs. Muraki finds this most irksome. He posed Tsuzuki the same way, blanket and yukata, bandages around hand and left temple. He wanted proof that he had re-captured his grandfather's mystery.

His grandfather captured more than he himself could hold onto, a black and white picture of Tsuzuki alive and breathing. The picture is gone now, as is Muraki's, which showed only an empty cot with a blanket disarranged on its surface.

Gone, as Tsuzuki is himself, but Muraki has the scar, at least.

He traces it with a knife, to keep it from fading.

Nicely creepy.

Creepy is what I was aiming for. Good to know I succeeded!

This is just... Muraki. Managing to take something and make it stay in a prverse way is exactly something that he'd do. Erk. I really like this.

I was very worried that I hadn't gotten the character at all, so I'm pleased to hear you think it was Muraki-esque (Murakian? ;-). Thank you!

I don't think it’s against canon — yet. If they, in their spiritual form can’t be seen by humans, why should a camera be able to capture them? AndMuraki is weird in that he can do things other humans can’t — enter Meifu, see shinigami in their spiritual form, see red moons.

I like the way you play up Muraki’s obsessiveness — long-term ongoing, extreme and perverted.

That was exactly my reasoning, but I haven't read all the manga, so I wasn't sure if there was something in there to contradict it. If so, I'll just call it AU. *G*

And thank you for letting me know you liked it! I wasn't at all sure it worked, so it's good to hear that it did.

Oh, god. This is just *perfect*. You've written Muraki so well, and it's creepy and sad and obsessive and *good*.

Thank you! I really needed a pick-me-up in the ego boost department today, and everyone's responses are definitely providing it. *G*
