This post is to gauge interest in a Yami no Matsuei fic exchange, to be held January or February of next year. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, please comment to this post saying you'd be interested, and indicating whether you'd prefer a writing window of four weeks, six weeks, or eight weeks. Also, please state whether you'd prefer a minimum word count of 500 or 1000 words. I will be asking for follow-up input on type of request prompts, the format of sign-ups, preferences on where the fic should be posted, and so forth, but for now, I just want to try to get a rough head count of how many people would be interested in participating.

This is just an FYI that the multi-fandom Remix Redux is gearing up for its ninth year, and Yami no Matsuei is one of the qualifying fandoms. Several YnM authors have participated in Remix for many years, but it would be excellent if we could get even more participants this year.

What is Remix? Well, in the words of the original mod, musesfool:

Take a chance, make a mess. Tell the story backwards, tell it from the POV of an inanimate object. Tell it in future tense or past tense or second person (gah, I can't believe I just recommended that *g*). Rewrite it in the style of Dickens or Hemingway or Woolf.

A/N: This was written for a "Give me the title of a story I've never written, and your feedback telling me what you liked best about it, and I will..." meme. p_zeitgeist gave me the following piece of feedback, and I thought for sure I would have written some multiple of drabble before expanding the story to reflect her comment.

"Thirteen of Shadows"

The re-imagining of the Tarot was amazing and brilliant, and I want to steal the entire concept. And it's such an interesting and illuminating take on the characters: I'd never have thought of anything like it left to myself, and now not only do I see it, but I can see an entire world that it implies -- and I'd never have seen all that, either.

The majority of feedback I got on the question of opening up the community to flash fiction was positive, and favored the definition of flash fiction that was any story up to one thousand words. So, with that input in mind, I am making the official statement that Fuda 100 now welcomes drabbles, stories of exactly one hundred words, and other forms of flash fiction, up to one thousand words.

As previously mentioned, there will no longer be regular challenge topics issued, but feel free to look through past challenge topics if you're in need of some inspiration.

If you have thoughts on other ways to make this community better serve the fandom, please leave them in the comments here or email them to me at ranalore at gmail dot com. Just be aware that I am moving across the country this coming week, so I'm unlikely to be able to address your suggestions until mid-October, at the earliest. I ask your patience a little longer.

With LJ's announcement of their intention to purge inactive accounts, and given the quiet of this community for the past several years, I have determined that a change in format is in order. To that end, I am opening the community to all YnM drabbles and drabble series, including crossovers, whether inspired by a challenge topic here or not. Pieces must still be exactly 100, 150, or 200 words to be posted here, but topics are no longer restricted by challenges. I have changed the community rules listed on the Profile Page in order to reflect this new format.

Now for the question part of this entry: Would the members like to see this community opened up to flash fiction as well as drabbles? There are two definitions of flash fiction, one of which is any story up to 500 words, and the other of which is any story up to 1000 words. If fuda_100 were to be opened to flash fiction, would members prefer that we use the 500-word definition, or the 1000-word definition?

Author's Notes: I was playing with a random word generator, and got the word "expletive." Somehow, this came about. My brain is diseased.



Hisoka looked at the strange, blobby things and glared. Watari could make whatever twisted creations he wanted, as long as they didn't make trouble for Hisoka.

This definitely counted as trouble.

"Daddy! Daddy!" The bizarrely adorable blobs crowded around his legs.

"I am not your daddy! Dammit!" he spat.

"Hisoka!" Tsuzuki looked horrified. "Not in front of our children! You'll be a terrible example if you don't--Ah! No! Domestic abuse will create a horrible environment! They won't be able to form healthy relationships later in life!"

In the corner, Watari shook his head. "Those kids will need years of therapy."

Rediscovering the boy is a pleasant surprise. He expects to once again take pleasure in those terrified emerald eyes, that trembling porcelain body. He doesn't expect the fury or the steely resolve. He becomes intrigued.

On their third meeting, the boy stares him in the eyes without flinching, and even goes so far as to challenge him. The boy leaves thinking he's won, not realizing that the game has just begun.

He leaves the boy with a gravely injured Tsubaki-hime, already knowing how the lovers' tragedy will play out.

“I'll make something of you yet,” he whispers.
